Building a Homemade Weather Radar with a HackRF or PlutoSDR and a Salvaged RV Satellite Dish

9GRadio is an open-source Android app for RTL-SDR dongles, released by Richard (9G5AR), focused on spectrum monitoring and multi-mode radio decoding. A standout feature is its built-in multilateration stack for transmitter geolocation — only two networked 9GRadio receivers are required, and the stack is advertised as protocol-agnostic, so any mode carrying a digital identity (AIS, ACARS, RDS, digital voice, etc.) can be localised. The APK and source are available on GitHub Releases; the app is not on Google Play.

Passive 5G Handset AoA Estimation via USRP B210 Using Uplink SRS

A new arxiv paper (2608.00080) proposes a passive, network-side angle-of-arrival (AoA) framework running on an srsRAN gNB. It harvests the native Sounding Reference Signal (SRS) transmitted by off-the-shelf 5G handsets, captures per-antenna SRS channel estimates with a calibrated two-element USRP B210 receiver, and feeds them into a MUSIC-based estimator. No protocol changes or UE cooperation are required, and up to four handsets can be localized simultaneously. Indoor measurements on n40/n78 across a 30° broadside sector achieve ~1.5° RMS error; outdoor tests in a live 5G SA deployment confirm multi-user passive localization. Accuracy is governed mainly by propagation and SINR rather than distance.
